"It's going to go down as one of our most successful picnics," declared Democratic Town Chair Robert "Bob" Catalino, Sr. "We had a great turnout and broke a club record for proceeds from 'Neno's Auction.' " Great local food was a big part of it. The loaded tables of food included Italian sausage from Evans' Lakeside Market, hot dogs from Connors, and pizza from Evangola Pizzeria. The topper was the homemade specialities, including Polish- and Italian influenced casseroles, salads and desserts, that were brought by picnic attendees. Candidates for local office mingled with Town residents, including incumbents County Legislator Reynolds, County Clerk Kathy Hochul and County Judge Hon. Tim Franczyk Also there to meet Evans voters were County Executive candidate Paul Clark, and Supreme Court candidates Lynn Clarke, Hon. James Dillon of the Family Court, and Tracey Bannister. Helping out at the picnic were the 'Pordum Partridge Cooper' Town board team. Fran Pordum is running for Town Supervisor with Town Board candidates Tom Partridge and incumbent Paul Cooper. The highlight was Neno's Auction, conducted by auctioneer Anthony "Neno" LaRusso, former Democratic Town Chair. Blessed with a gift for description, Neno raised over $300 by turning donations into another person's treasure. Due to the auction, Evans homes are likely to be the best adorned this coming Halloween and Christmas. . Thanks to all who donated, and special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mariorana of the Angola Roller Rink, for their substantial donation of holiday decorations. The next Club meeting is this coming Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 7:30 p.m., at the VFW on Route 5, near Lake Street. Interested in joining? Then we look forward to seeing you there. copyright©2006 Evans Democratic Club |
