Elected officials Kathleen Bartus and Paul Cooper addressed the August meeting of the Evans Democratic Club. "You're going to receive an application shortly, for the real property tax relief through the 2007 Middle Class STAR Rebate Program," described Bartus. "This rebate check is based both on your property tax burden and your ability to pay, factoring in your income level. It's important that you fill this out and mail it back in." The STAR Rebate Program permits applicants to file online. As soon as you receive your application, you can visit www.nystax.gov and complete the process in a couple of minutes. Cooper addressed the Hike-and-Bike path, which is to run from Wendt Beach to the Town Park "There's been changes in NewYork State and Erie County's requirements which have caused delay," described Cooper. "And getting the rights-of-way in place has been a challenge." Plans are currently being made for a ground-breaking ceremony this fall. Bartus advised that pictures of what portions of the Hike-and-Bike path will look like are available at the Town Hall. You can check with the office of the Supervisor, any Board member, or the Planning office. Former Chair Anthony "Neno" LaRusso was recognized for his efforts related to the Club's August picnic. Club member Michelle Parker discussed an upcoming Chamber of Commerce mixer on August 31 at Grandview Golf Course. Club member and former Board member John Latimore was recognized for his investment into a local business. Latimore and his wife Cynthia have purchased the funeral home on N. Main Street in Angola which is now named the Latimore-Schiavone Funeral Home, Inc. The next Club meeting is earlier than usual -- it's on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m., at the VFW on Route 5, near Lake Street. copyright©2006 Evans Democratic Club |
