COOPER WINS IN EVANS LANDSLIDE Paul Cooper was elected to the Evans Town Council,
winning every one of the town's 17 voting districts according to
unofficial tallies on election night.
"Thank you, to the voters, to my
family, my friends, and the people who helped my on my campaign,"
announced Cooper to a crowded room of supporters at the VFW Post 5798
after the results came in. "Thank you as well to the people of the Town of
Evans, for putting your confidence in me. We ran a positive campaign. This
response makes it clear that the people of this town want to focus on what
makes this place a great place to live and raise a family."
"I've never seen anything like it," described Robert "Bob" Catalino, Sr.,
chair of the Evans Democratic Committee.
"I've been doing this for a long time, and I can't remember someone
getting 100 percent of the districts the first time he ever ran. It really
says something about his campaign, which was about what's best for the
town."
That sentiment was echoed by Evans Democratic Club president, Jonica
DiMartino.
"Paul spoke to voters about his goals for the Town. He talked about
working together with the great people we have in Town government -- both
elected officials and people in the departments," she noted. "I think the
voters looked at his years of experience in business and marketing. They
knew he'd be a great help as the Town continues to promote itself as a
recreation destination."
Cooper, 44, and his wife Ann reside with their three children in
Angola. He is a lifelong resident of Evans and General Sales
Manager for a progressive talk radio station, WWKB-1520 AM. He was
endorsed by the Democratic, Conservative, and Independent parties and won
the primary for the Working Families party. Opponent Keith E. Dash, a
teacher at Lakeshore Middle School, was endorsed by the Republican and
Reform parties.
The race was held to fill out the final year of the vacancy left by the
withdrawal in early 2005 of former councilmember Joseph Govenettio.
Cooper pledged "to do my best for the Town this year, and I pledge to run
again next year for a full 4-year term."
"I am humbled by and thank the town for its support, and will do my best
to earn everybody's continued support next time," promised Cooper.
