July 2008 Meeting

Town Board member Paul Cooper introduced the Hon. Jeannette Ogden, candidate for the Family Court of Erie County, to the members at the July meeting of the Evans Democratic Club.  Judge Ogden discussed her background as a judge, prosecutor, trial attorney, and working with families, including as an acting Family Court judge.

Town Chair Bob Catalino thanked former Lakeshore teacher Jim McBridge and former Lakeshore student Dr. Wesley Hicks, M.D., for arranging for Judge Ogden's visit.  He congratulated the efforts of local volunteers who collected 650 signatures on nominating petitions for county and regional candidates.  The local Democratic Committee will have committeeman candidates for each of the Town's 17 voting districts.

The Club welcomed new members: Tom Glascott and Cindy Glascott.  Reports of elected officials were presented by Town Supervisor Fran Pordum, Deputy Supervisor Karen Connors Erickson, Town Board member Paul Cooper, and Town Clerk Carole Meissner.  Preparations are being made for a groundbreaking this fall for the Hike-Bike path.  Club president Jonica DiMartino noted that there are voter registration forms at the Town Clerk's office.

Town Chair Bob Catalino talked about preparation for the Club's picnic on Sunday, August 17, at 1 p.m., at the Evans Town Park.  People with donations for "Neno's Auction" should bring the items to the picnic.  Lynn Stossel outlined the activities for kids that will be available for this year's picnic.

The next meeting will be held a week earlier than usual -- on Tuesday, August 12th, at the Evans VFW Post 5798, starting at 7:30 p.m.  New members are welcome, and current members are encouraged to continue the "Bring A Friend" effort.
