September 2008 Meeting

Club president Jonica DiMartino presided over the September meeting of the Evans Democratic Club on Tuesday, September 16.  The Club is holding a Tailgate Party on Sunday, September 28, with kickoff at 4:05 p.m.  All Buffalo Bills fans, or St. Louis fans, are welcome to join in at the American Legion Post No. 928, on Route 5 in Derby.  The party will go to 7:30 p.m. and feature food, raffles and refreshments.

Club member Neno LaRusso introduced speaker Jack Meaghan, who is organizing a bipartisan fundraiser to support the re-election of Congressman Brian Higgins.  Meaghan discussed Higgin's commitment to the 12 miles of Lake Erie waterfront in the Town of Evans.  The fundraiser will take place at Mickey Rats on Sunday, October 5, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Reports of elected officials were presented by Town Supervisor Fran Pordum and Deputy Supervisor Karen Connors Erickson.  Pordum discussed the differences in economic policy between presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, and that the McCain policies will decrease funding for localities such as the Town of Evans.  Pordum also commended club member Neno LaRusso for the great job he did running the village of Angola's 9/11 Memorial Remembrance Service.  Town Chair Bob Catalino presented a report on the recent primaries, the successful Democratic candidates, and issues arising as to voting machines.

Plans are underway for a Halloween Party on Saturday, October 25 at the American Legion Post No. 928 in Derby.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Evans VFW Post 5798, starting at 7:30 p.m.  For more information about the Club, visit www.evansdemocratic.org.
