September 2008 Meeting
Club president
Jonica DiMartino
presided over the
September meeting of
the Evans Democratic
Club on Tuesday,
September 16.
The Club is holding
a Tailgate Party on
Sunday, September
28, with kickoff at
4:05 p.m. All
Buffalo Bills fans,
or St. Louis fans,
are welcome to
join in at the American
Legion Post
No. 928, on Route 5
in Derby. The party
will go to 7:30 p.m.
and feature food,
raffles and
refreshments.
Club member Neno
LaRusso introduced
speaker Jack Meaghan,
who is organizing a
bipartisan
fundraiser to
support the
re-election of
Congressman Brian
Higgins. Meaghan
discussed Higgin's
commitment to the 12
miles of Lake Erie
waterfront in the
Town of Evans. The
fundraiser will take
place at Mickey Rats
on Sunday, October
5, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Reports of
elected officials
were presented by Town
Supervisor
Fran Pordum
and Deputy
Supervisor Karen
Connors Erickson.
Pordum discussed the
differences in
economic policy
between presidential
candidates Barack
Obama and John
McCain, and that the
McCain policies will
decrease funding
for localities such
as the Town of
Evans. Pordum also
commended club
member Neno LaRusso
for the great job he
did running the
village of Angola's
9/11 Memorial
Remembrance
Service. Town Chair
Bob Catalino
presented a report
on the recent
primaries, the
successful
Democratic
candidates, and
issues arising as to
voting machines.
Plans are underway
for a Halloween
Party on Saturday,
October 25 at the
American Legion Post
No. 928 in
Derby. The next
meeting will be held
on Tuesday, October
21 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Evans
VFW Post
5798, starting at
7:30 p.m.
