The Town of Evans Democratic Committee held its 2008 biennial reorganization meeting at the VFW on Saturday, November 22. County Secretary Dennis Ward was in attendance as the Erie County Democratic Committee representative and opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The following is the slate of officers elected by unanimous vote at the meeting: Town Chair: Robert ("Bob") Catalino; Vice-chairs: Ross A. Guarino, Laurie Supples DiMartile and Robert ("Rob") Catalino; Secretary: Kathleen Karyczak; Treasurer: Joseph J. Catalano; and Sargeant-at-arms James M. Guarino.
Ward reviewed some of the numbers arising from the recent election, noting that 5,000 people in Erie County changed their party registration from Republican to Democratic before the election. In 2009, there will be county-wide races for Sheriff and Comptroller. During a question-and-answer session, attendees offered suggestions on matters that the Board of Elections could do to improve the voting process.
Chair Catalino discussed the outlook for the 2009 elections. There will be town races for Town Justice, Highway Superintendent, Clerk, Receiver of Taxes, and two board seats. He noted that there are 5,104 registered Democrats in the Town of Evans.
