Town Clerk Carole Meissner led the Evans Democratic Club in the Pledge of Allegiance at the April meeting held at the VFW.

Reports of elected officials were presented.  Town councilmember Karen Erickson discussed the status of the Hike/Bike Path and the move of the SPCA to the Walden Galleria.  Town Clerk Carole Meissner noted that her retirement will take effect on December 31st of 2009.

Town chair Robert "Bob" Catalino discussed the Southtowns Democratic Club's award of the lifetime achievement award to Carol Meissner at the Evans VFW on Saturday, May 16th.  He described her years as Town Clerk, during which she has worked with 7 supervisors and 29 councilmembers.

Catalino discussed the local petitions seeking to decease representation on the Town Board, from 5 to 3 members.  This would increase the citizen to board member ratio, and diminish the ability for a taxpayer's voice to be heard.

The Club honored the memory of Mrs. Marjorie Joyce, the wife of forner Police Chief William Joyce.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., at the VFW on Route 5.
