August 2, 2009 "The sun always shines on the Democratic Club's picnic," observed Town Chair Robert "Bob" Catalino, Sr. "Although it rained in the morning, it cleared up just as we put the Italian sausage on the grill and people starting coming in." Great food makes a great picnic. The picnic offerings included Italian sausage from Lakeside Market, hot dogs donated by Connors Hot Dog Stand, and pizza from several local pizzerias. Club members brought their own homemade specialties, including hot casseroles and cold salads. There was an entire table groaning under the weight of the desserts brought to the event. Candidates for local office attended including County Legislator Bob Reynolds, County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz, and Sheriff candidate Captain John Glascott. Captain Glascott is the nephew of Club member Tom Glascott of Angola. The team of Cindy Latimore, her daughters Meghan and Nicole and her neice Paige, kept the kids entertained with several games, including the ever-popular water balloon toss. The picnic's highlight was Neno's Auction, moderated by auctioneer Anthony "Neno" LaRusso and co-auctioneer Matthew Rzepka. The next Club meeting is Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 7:30 p.m., at the VFW on Route 5, near Lake Street. The next meeting will be held at the VFW on Tuesday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. copyright©2006-09 Evans Democratic Club |
