County Legislator Bob Reynolds  led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance at the November meeting of the Evans Democratic Club.  Reports of elected officials were presented by Town Supervisor Fran Pordum, Board members Karen Connors Erickson and Paul Cooper, Town Clerk Carol Meissner, and Angola mayor Howard "Hub" Frawley.

Pordum and Erickson reported on the "hold the line" budget passed by the Town Board.  "It's a good thing the merger referendum passed, otherwise the Town wouldn't have a balanced budget," noted Pordum.  "The Town has lost the value of $15M off its property tax base, since the State came in and gave tax breaks to utilities and railroads.  For the second year in a row, the Town will maintain a no-travel policy."  Pordum also recognized Bob Reynolds for his contributions to the residents and beaches of the Town of Evans.

Erickson and Cooper praised the work of Bob Reynolds as legislator.  "Bob has done a great job representing the agricultural districts in the Southtowns," described Cooper.  Meissner noted a $7,500 grant her office obtained for records management in the Town Clerk's office.  That office was recognized  for its passport services by the National Passport Agency.

Village mayor Frawley praised Reynolds for his work on distressed properties.  He reported on a new 12-inch water line the village is installing on S. Main Street that will facilitate future expansion for the Goya plant.  Also underway is the construction of the Senior Housing facility.  "The ribbon cutting is scheduled for March 2010; people can call the Village Hall for information on applications."

Bob Beck reported on the successful Casino run held on Sunday, November 8.  "We completely sold out the bus, and could have sold more if there was any room," he described.  Fifty-four people participated in the trip to the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls.

Five people were named to the Nominating Commitee:  Robert "Bob" Catalino, Anthony "Neno" LaRusso, Becky Pordum, PJ and Nancy McNaughton.  A slate of the Board and Director candidates will be presented for the 2010 election at the December meeting.

The December meeting will be held at the VFW on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m.  Members are asked to bring plate of goodies and a donation to the VFW Christmas food basket.  The November meeting adjourned in memory of Joni Dillon, sister-in-law to Club recording secretary Kathleen Bartus.  The meeting also adjourned in honor of veterans and in recognition of Veterans Day.
