Club charter member Joan Keohane led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance at the December meeting of the Evans Democratic Club.  For a change, the meeting was held at Chick's instead of the VFW.  The Club collected $100 to donate to the VFW's Christmas drive and enjoyed Chick's pizza and holiday fellowship.

The Nominating Committee presented a slate of Board and Director candidates for the Club's 2010 election.  The following people were elected to Club positions:  President: Michelle Parker;  Vice-president: Patti Latimore; Treasurer: Dawn Csati; Corresponding secretary: Gert Jerozal; Co-recording secretaries: Kathy Bartus and Kathy Karyczak; Sergeant-at-arms: Becky Pordum; Directors:  Ross Guarino, Karen Connors Erickson, and Mark Parker.

Reports of elected officials were presented by Town Supervisor Fran Pordum, Deputy Town Supervisor Karen Connors Erickson and Paul Cooper, and Angola mayor Howard "Hub" Frawley.

Pordum updated the Club on Town, County and State efforts to retain the New Era plant in the Town of Evans and the status of the new garbage collection bid process.  Erickson reported that the federal government issued funds for the "hike-bike" path which went through the state.  However, the state's freeze on spending is holding up the funds.  Erickson also extended compliments to the Parks Department for the wonderful holiday lights in the Town Park.  Frawley described the switch to LED lights for the holiday decorations in the Village of Angola.  Applications for the new senior housing apartments can be picked up at the Village Hall up to 12/17/2009.  The building will be occupied by mid-February 2010.

Town Chair Robert "Bob-Cat" Catalino advised that the swearing-in for Town officials will be held on January 1, 2010 at 2 p.m.  The Hon. Michael Cooper, Eden Town Justice, will administer the oath to his brother, Evans Town Justice Timothy Cooper, incoming Town Clerk Jonica DiMartino and Highway Superintendent Ed Michalski.  Punch, cookies and coffee will be served.

The January meeting will be held at the VFW on Tuesday, January 19 at 7:30 p.m.  The Club officers and directors will be sworn in at that time.  The December meeting adjourned with good wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and with get-well wishes to one of the club  members.
