April 20, 2010 Brad Rybczynski, candidate for the 146th Assembly seat, led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance at the April meeting of the Evans Democratic Club. This is his first run for elective office. Rybczynski spoke about growing up in the Southtowns, his jobs in the Southtowns, his four kids, and his background in government and Albany. He included frank remarks about the kinds of changes needed in Albany to bring some stability to the state budget. Questions can be directed to him at info@bradryb2010.com. Other announced candidates for the 146th District Assembly include Mike Amodeo of Lakeview, a local attorney, and Daniel Kozub of Hamburg, the current County legislator for the First District Reports of elected officials were presented by Town Supervisor Fran Pordum and Town Clerk Jonica DiMartino. Pordum addressed questions raised about the recent unauthorized digging at Town property and upon a state DOT right-of-way. This occurred in Derby, where the Statue of Liberty replica and veterans' memorial is located. Topsoil from the area had been removed from Town property to a nearby gas station for purposes unknown. Residents are concerned about whether Town taxpayers are liable if anyone trips on the hole. Pordum assured everyone that the hole has been protected for the safety of pedestrians. He congratulated Deputy Supervisor Paul Cooper for his fast action when the unauthorized digging was discovered on Good Friday. A cease-and-desist order was served to put an end to the activity. In addition, the Town has obtained stepped up police patrols to ensure that no further destruction of Town property occurs Town Chair Robert "Bob-Cat" Catalino discussed plans for the picnic. This is confirmed for Sunday, August 8. Club member Dawn Casali will attend to the host sponsorship letters. Cindy Latimore and her team of beautiful daughters will attend to the kids activities. Ross and Jim Guarino will do the cooking; John Latimore will donate the charcoal. The May meeting will be held at the VFW on Tuesday, May 18, 7:30 p.m.
