State Senate candidate Cynthia Appleton's coordinator, Chris Sasiadek, led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance at the September meeting of the Evans Democratic Club.  Appleton is a longtime Trustee in the Village of Warsaw, and also a registered nurse.  A fundraiser for the Appleton campaign will be held on Sunday, September 26, at Danny's South, starting at 12:30 pm to coincide with the Bills game.  Tickets are $35 a person and $60 per couple.

The Club congratulated Anthony "Neno" LoRusso for the beautiful 9/11 Memorial ceremony he organized at the Village Gazebo on Sat., 9/11/10 at 1 p.m.  Neno thanked fellow club member Mattie Rzepka for providing the sound system free of charge.  Speakers at the event included club members Town Supervisor Fran Pordum, Angola Mayor Howard "Hub" Frawley, and Town Clerk Jonica DiMartino.  Other speakers were Gene Hackemer, Commander of the American Legion, and Village trustee Bill Houston.

The Club also congratulated Karen Connors Erickson for the successful Wiener Run held on Sat., 9/18/10 at Connors Hot Dog Stand.  Proceeds from this 5-K event will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore.

Brad Rybczynski attended to thank Evans for support to his state assembly candidacy.  Rybczynski defeated two other candidates in the recent Democratic primary.  In the race for Erie County Clerk, Kathy Hochul held an Evans event at  Connors Hot Dog Stand, on Thursday, September 16.  She is committed to maintaining a DMV office in the Evans Town Hall.  This has offered a good deal of convenience to Evans residents, who would otherwise have to drive to Orchard Park, Buffalo or Dunkirk to attend to DMV business.

A Town Board work session prevented Pordum, Cooper, and DiMartino from personally presenting their reports.  The work session was held to discuss the upcoming changes in the NYS Article 7 for Local Dog Licensing.  Although it does not go into effect until January 2011, the session was held to plan for actions in the next few months.

DiMartino alerted the Club that school tax bills went out last week.  She is accepting payments at the Town Clerk’s office and at the Evans Bank branches in Evans and Derby.  To pay at the bank, bring your original tax bill with you.  An envelope was included with the bills so residents can also mail in their payment.  Residents can view their updated payment information at www.townofevans.org and print prior tax bills for past county and school collections, by clicking on Real Property Tax Inquiry

Town Chair Robert "Bob-Cat" Catalino noted that there is a campaign party for state assembly candidate Brad Rybczynski.  This will be held on Wed., 10/13/10 at the VFW.  Friends of Paul Cooper are holding a fundraiser on Sat., 10/16/10 -- details to follow.  The Cooper organizers welcome donations of a bottle of wine or liquor to the wheelbarrow of cheers, or a basket for the Chinese auction.

The Club sent get-well wishes to Recording Secretary Kathy Bartus, who is recovering from knee surgery.  The next meeting will be held at the VFW on Tuesday, October 19  at 7:30 p.m.
