Evans Democratic Club Members Honored Club members Bob Catalino, Sr. and Anthony "Neno" LaRusso were honored at the Third Annual Spring Recognition Dinner held by the Southtowns Democratic Club. The dinner was held on Saturday, May 19 at Eden Memorial VFW Post #8265. Bob has chaired the Evans Democratic Committee for 9 years, since 1998. Retired from Lakeshore Central Schools, he served 4 terms as Supervisor of the Town of Evans. His son Rob Catalino II, the town supervisor for the past 12 years, presented the award for Bob's service to the STDC. Rob noted that his father was originally inspired by John F. Kennedy's election in 1960 and the idealism promoted by Kennedy's campaign. Following a standing ovation for Bob was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Neno LaRusso, awarded in recognition of his 50 years of service as a Democratic Committeeman. At age 18, 3 years before he was eligible to vote, Neno started a Young Democrats Club for the Town of Evans. After returning from service in Viet Nam, Neno joined the Evans Democratic Club. Bob described Neno's service as Town Committee Chair for 20 years and how he has continued to contribute as a member of the Evans Democratic Club. Neno was honored with his own standing ovation and then recounted the origins of the Southtowns Democratic Club and how those origins grew into the present Club. Eden Town Supervisor Glen Nellis was honored as Democrat of the Year. The Union Award went to Don Loretto of the Communications Workers of America (CWA.) Save the date: the Town Club's annual picnic is on Sunday, August 5th at 1 p.m., at Evans Town Park. The Evans Democratic Club exists to assist the Democratic Committee to recruit, elect, and support good leaders to govern and guide this community.
